Heygendorf is a district of the city and rural community of Artern in the Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis ( Germany ). The place is about five kilometers east of the main town Artern an der Helme , a tributary of the Unstrut .

history

In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery , which was created between 881 and 899, Heygendorf is mentioned in a document as the place of Hachendorpf im Friesenfeld, which is subject to a tithing obligation .

Schaafsdorf was certainly founded at the same time as Heygendorf, but was first mentioned in a document in 1273 as Scafsdorp.

In the 13th and 14th centuries Heygendorf was subordinate to the Counts of Mansfeld . After the ownership changed several times under various counts in the following time, it came to the Wettins in 1422 . The village was under their rule until 1918. The two brothers Ulrich and Balthasar von Geusau received the Heygendorf manor as a fief in 1451 . It was owned by the von Geusau family for 357 years. Since the 15th century, the villages belonged to the Allstedt office in the later Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . The hall church with its retracted choir tower was given its current shape after 1687. A prominent inhabitant of Heygendorf was Caroline Jagemann , a Weimar actress and lover of Grand Duke Karl August , who gave her the Heygendorf fief in 1809. This ended the rule of the von Geusau, who were often a nuisance during their rule because of their contentiousness. A son of Caroline Jagemann, Wolfgang, inherited the estate after his mother's death. It was not until 1930 that his descendants sold the property. In 1830, Schaafsdorf's membership of the Heygendorf manor also ended.

In the first quarter of the 20th century, potash salts were drilled in the Heygendofer Flur, but were soon abandoned for reasons of economy. The ruins of the Thuringia trade union potash plant are still visible from afar over Heygendorf.

In 1923 the two places Schaafsdorf and Heygendorf were merged into one municipality.

With effect from October 1, 1945, Heygendorf, which had been in Thuringia until then, was assigned to the Sangerhausen district of the Province of Saxony .

With the territorial reform, the village came to the Artern district in the Halle district of the GDR in 1952 and has been part of the North Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis since 1994.
