Johann Joseph Fackler (* 1698 ; † November 18, 1745 in Salzburg ) was a painter who worked in Salzburg. His place of birth is unknown.

Life

Fackler was a student of the painter Johann Friedrich Pereth, who was also active in Salzburg . His activity seems to be limited to the city and the immediate vicinity of Salzburg.

In St. Johann am Imberg “a painted trellis” comes from him. In 1733 he worked in the parish church of St. Erhard . Around 1733 the picture of St. Rupert with the city of Salzburg at the reliquary grave of St. Rupert in the collegiate church of St. Peter . In 1736 and 1738 Fackler worked for the parish church in Mülln . In the sacristy there is a St. Augustine received from him. The most famous painting is the "Transfiguration of Christ" in the corresponding chapel in Salzburg Cathedral . Fackler created a copy of the high altar sheet by Francesco Vanni for the former Augustinian canons in Höglwörth . Fackler's picture was only installed in the cathedral in 1828. Previously, a painting of St. Vincent by Johann Heinrich Schönfeld, which is now lost, was in this chapel .

Fackler seems to have worked primarily as an engraver. In 1742 he created a series of copperplate engravings for the illustrated catechism "Milk and Food Christian Truth and Justice" (Salzburg 1742) by Georg Stadler. Fackler provided the templates for the copperplate engravings, which were engraved by Franz Sebastian Schaur.
