Johann Joseph Geisser
Johann Joseph Geisser (born March 29, 1824 in Altstätten , † October 10, 1894 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss landscape and genre painter .
Life
Johann Joseph Geisser was born as the son of the turner Johann Joseph Geisser and Maria Magdalena. Grüninger born. After an apprenticeship as a watchmaker, he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich from April 27, 1843 and continued his studies in Rome . He spent a few years in Zurich , where he worked as a landscape, genre and portrait painter . In 1863 he married Rosalie Louise Caroline Elise Masson. In 1865 he settled in Lausanne. From 1859 to 1886 he exhibited his works regularly in Geneva . From 1846 to 1886 he took part in the rotating exhibitions of the Swiss Art Society. In 1866 Geisser founded the Vaudois section of the Société des peintres et sculpteurs suisses . Works by him are in the Kunsthaus Zürich and in the art museums of Lausanne and St. Gallen .
