Johann Kerer

Johann Kerer (born October 2, 1808 in Bruneck , † August 9, 1867 in Obernberg am Brenner ) was an Austrian legal scholar and politician .

Life

Kerer studied until 1835 law at the University of Innsbruck and was there in 1835 for Dr. jur. PhD. He was initially a temporary assistant at the Chamber Procuratorate in Innsbruck , in 1846 a supplement to the chair for political science and Austrian political law, and from 1847 until his death he was a full professor for these subjects in Innsbruck. In 1849/50 and 1860/61 he was rector and dean in 1851/52 and 1859/60.

After the March Revolution he was from May 1848 together with Father Albert Jäger editor of the weekly newspaper “Volksblatt für Tirol und Vorarlberg” as organ of the Catholic constitutional association for Tyrol and Vorarlberg.

From May 18, 1848 to April 16, 1849 , he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly for Tyrol and Vorarlberg in Silz for the constituency of Oberinntal , Tyrol and Vorarlberg in the Pariser Hof parliamentary group . Then he took part in the rump parliament in Stuttgart.

From 1861 to 1863 Kerer was sent to the Reichsrat by the Tyrolean state parliament , and from 1865 to 1867 he was elected to the Tyrolean state parliament.

Johann-Kerer-Strasse in Bruneck is named after him.
