The Rosenheim master tailor Johann Klepper (born May 23, 1868 in Rosenheim; † January 31, 1949 there ), who had previously added a department for sporting goods to his parents' tailoring, acquired the exclusive license for the folding boat invented by Heurich in 1907 from Alfred Heurich and began with the series production of boats. He set up the necessary production facility in the attic of his house.

In 1919, Klepper founded Johann Klepper & Co. GmbH .

The entrepreneur Klepper did not limit himself to the production of folding boats, but also produced a number of other rubberized articles such as rubber shoes and the Klepper coats , which he developed in 1926 from a material impregnated with rubber. During the time of National Socialism, Klepper also supplied state customers. Klepper produced special coats for the Wehrmacht and the Reichsbahn.

For some time the Klepper Faltbootwerft advertised with the slogan "Go happily into the wide world, with a Klepper coat, boat and tent"

When his son Hans Klepper took over the company from his father in 1929, the company produced up to 90 boats and 1,000 raincoats a day.

In 1973 the company was divided into Klepper Bootsbau KG (later Klepper Faltbootwerft ) and Klepper Bekleidungsfabrik KG (later Klepper Sportswear ).

With the disappearance of the rubberized coat fabric in the 1970s, the Klepper coat gradually disappeared from the streets. The last Klepper coat was made in 1988.
