The honorary citizenship of the city of Rosenheim is the highest distinction that the Upper Bavarian city of Rosenheim can bestow. According to the currently valid statute on awards from the city of Rosenheim of November 28, 2002, it is a special award, the award of which is limited to a few people.

The city council decides on the award by non-public resolution. At least two parliamentary groups of the city council, which must comprise at least 30 percent of the members of the city council, or the mayor, who needs the support of at least one parliamentary group of the city council, are entitled to make proposals.

Honorary citizenship is established by handing over a certificate. When the certificate is handed out, a pin in the shape of a golden rose is also awarded. Honorary citizens should be invited as guests of honor to special festive events in the city. On the occasion of the death of an honorary citizen, the city of Rosenheim pays the burial costs, the grave fee and the maintenance of the grave for 25 years.

The loss of civil rights leads to the loss of the award. In addition, the award can be revoked in accordance with Article 16, Paragraph 2 of the Municipal Code for the Free State of Bavaria due to unworthy behavior. The resolution requires a majority of two thirds of the voting members of the city council.

The following list names the 12 honorary citizens of Rosenheim who have been appointed since 1905. It has been adjusted for at least three people ( Hitler , Epp , Göring ) who were deprived of honorary citizenship in 1945. In addition to Paul von Hindenburg . The basis for this is the prevailing commentary on the Bavarian municipal code, which states that honorary citizenship expires with the death of the recipient. The main and finance committee of the city of Rosenheim endorsed this opinion in its meeting on May 7, 2013 and unanimously decided to appoint Paul v. Hindenburg to be deleted from the list of honorary citizens of the city of Rosenheim.
