Franz Ledwinka
Franz Ledwinka (born May 27, 1883 in Vienna , † May 21, 1972 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian composer , pianist and music teacher .
Life
Franz Ledwinka studied at the Vienna Music Academy . From 1907 to 1949 he taught as a piano teacher at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . From 1915 to 1917 he was also director there. Herbert von Karajan and Otmar Suitner are among his most prominent students . The Mozarteum recognized him as an honorary member .
His work as a composer includes around 200 works of all genres - church music , music-dramatic works , orchestra - and chamber music , four song cycles and over 150 songs .
The city of Salzburg maintains his grave as an honor grave in the Salzburg municipal cemetery .
