Joseph Friedrich Hummel (born August 14, 1841 in Innsbruck , † August 29, 1919 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian conductor and composer. He was also director of the Mozarteum in Salzburg and head of the Salzburg Liedertafel .

Life

Joseph Friedrich Hummel studied at the Conservatory in Munich under Franz Lachner and went to stations in Innsbruck, where he was 20 years old Kapellmeister at the National Theater, Aachen, Troppau, Brünn, Vienna and Linz to Salzburg, where in 1880 he took over the management of the under the International Mozarteum Foundation took over the independent Mozarteum . Under him, this, at that time still with the rank of a music school, experienced an upswing, so that it was upgraded to a conservatory in 1914. In 1882 he also took over the management of the Salzburger Liedertafel until 1910 and between 1911 and 1912 , to which he founded a Damensing club in 1907. Hummel was also the founder of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra in 1880 , which he led (until 1908) for longer than any other conductor since then.

Works

As a composer, Hummel primarily created works that were performed as part of his diverse activities. Although he served all musical genres, theatrical music predominated.
