Johann Langer (born April 7, 1793 in Vienna ; † January 20, 1858 there ) was an Austrian writer and philanthropist .

Life

Langer came from a wealthy Viennese middle class family. His upbringing was still poor, so that he can be described as an autodidact with regard to writing. He wrote poems, short stories and fairy tales that were published in fiction magazines and almanacs. From 1816 he was a permanent employee of the Bäuerle 's theater newspaper. Throughout his life he held honorary positions in his hometown of Vienna (school supervisor, poor district director, etc.). He made great contributions as a member of the management board of the Sparcasse in the turmoil of 1848/49. For this he was awarded the Franz Joseph Order in 1850 . He died a very wealthy man.
