Johann Martin May (born June 29, 1793 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 20, 1866 ibid) was a politician of the Free City of Frankfurt .

May was the son of the Frankfurt master butcher Andreas Christian and his wife Maria Magdalena nee Lengfelder. He married in 1819 in Frankfurt Maria Magdalena born Stromsdörfer widowed Hax. His son Johann Andreas May (1819–58) also became a master butcher and member of the legislative body. Ser son Johann Valentin May (1827-1908) became Dr. jur., lawyer and judicial councilor, fled to Switzerland after participating in the Baden uprising in 1848, was sentenced to death in absentia, was a lawyer in Liestal canton Basel-Land, returned to Frankfurt in 1864, where he was the nursing office of the Hospital z. Holy Spirit directed and made great contributions to the musical life.

Life

Johann Martin May was a butcher in Frankfurt am Main. He was a member of the Legislative Body from 1832 to 1834, 1837 to 1841 and 1845 to 1850 . On October 25, 1848, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt .

May was a volunteer in the war against France in 1814. He stood up for the interests of the commercial middle class and in 1844 was one of the founders of the aid association for needy craftsmen. In 1848 he was the author of a memorandum addressed to the Paulskirche parliament on the “workers question”. In 1844 he was a co-founder of the Aid Association for Needy Craftsmen and in the summer of 1848 President of the German Craftsmen and Trade Congress.
