Count Johann Martin zu Stolberg (1594–1669)

Count Johann Martin zu Stolberg (born November 4, 1594 in Ortenberg ; † May 22, 1669 in Stolberg ) was the founder of the younger line of the Count's House of Stolberg . He was a member of the Fruitful Society under the name of the Existing .

Johann Martin was the second eldest son of Count Christoph zu Stolberg. From 1639 he was ruling count of the Stolberg estates together with his older brother Heinrich Ernst zu Stolberg . On May 31, 1645 both shared the property. Johann Martin received the county of Stolberg with the Stolberg half of the offices Kelbra and Heringen and the office of Hohnstein . After a trial against General Otto Wilhelm vom Berlepsch from Brandenburg , he was able to redeem the Roßla pledge in June 1650. The general did not want to keep to the rule that an attempt by the count to drive the general out with 200 men failed. Only the electoral commissioner from Dresden was able to persuade the general to give up.

Johann Martin personally took part in the last German Reichstag of the old empire in 1654 in Regensburg and signed the then Reichs Farewell.

On June 18, 1633 he married Agnes Elisabeth, the daughter of Count Justus von Barby, with whom he had the following children:

Due to the lack of a primary school, both sons succeeded him in the government.
