Gottlieb Heymüller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Mathias Gottlieb Heymüller (* around 1715 in Glenk Abbey near Steyr , ( Upper Austria ); † December 17, 1763 in Potsdam ) was a German sculptor in Bamberg and court sculptor in Potsdam. He is one of the most important artists of the Frederician Rococo .

Life

Heymüller was the son of the court carpenter Johann Florian Heymüller († July 28, 1754). On February 22, 1740, he married the daughter of the master plasterer Johann Jakob Vogel , Maria Elisabeth, in Bamberg . This made him the brother-in-law of Johann Peter Benkert . With this he worked together in a workshop community; so that Heymüller's independent works are very difficult to determine. In 1746 Heymüller went to Potsdam, probably following the call of his brother-in-law Peter Benkert. Among other things, he created the life-size figures of Chinese people who drink tea and make music around the tea house (built 1754–1756) in Sanssouci Park .

Other places of his work were Kersbach and Memmelsdorf .
