Johann Nepomuk Schäfer

Johann Nepomuk Schäfer (also Schäffer ; * 1751 in Osterburken , † 1796 in Mainz ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and university professor .

Life

Schäfer's early training has not been handed down. Overall, little is known about his life. He first joined the Jesuits . After the order was dissolved in 1773, Schäfer went to the Mainz seminary . He studied theology at the University of Mainz and received there in 1777 the degree of Lic. Theol. In the same year he was ordained a priest . He then worked as a pastor in pastoral care .

Shepherd followed in 1783 a reputation as a professor of New Testament exegesis returned to the University of Mainz. At this he became Dr. theol. PhD . In 1785 he was also canon of the collegiate monastery of Fritzlar Cathedral .
