Johann Nepomuk Graf Gleispach (born September 29, 1840 in Görz, today Gorizia , † February 21, 1906 in Graz ) was an Austrian lawyer and minister of justice .

biography

After studying law at the University of Graz , Gleispach entered civil service in 1861. From 1863, his career took place mainly in Graz, where he rose from public prosecutor to senior public prosecutor and later to president of the regional court. In 1892 he became president of the higher regional court there. In addition, Gleispach was also politically active, for example as a representative of the Styrian landed property in the state parliament and from 1895 as a lifelong member of the manor house . He usually voted with the German liberals .

On September 30, 1895, Gleispach became Minister of Justice in the Badeni cabinet . He made great contributions to the adoption of the reform of the code of civil procedure conceived by Franz Klein , but was targeted by the parliamentary opposition on the occasion of the conflict over the Baden language ordinance . From 1898 Gleispach was again active as President of the Higher Regional Court in Graz. Gleispach was the father of the lawyer Wenzeslaus von Gleispach and the cousin of the Styrian governor Karl Josef von Gleispach .
