Johann Peter Andreas Müller , also Johannes Peter Andreas Müller (born January 27, 1744 in Hettstedt ; † January 12, 1821 in Aurich ) was a German philosopher, Lutheran theologian and university professor.

Life

Johann Peter Andreas Müller was born in Hettstedt in the Mansfelder Land as the son of Peter Andreas Müller, twelfth member of the citizenry and judge. He attended school in Hettstedt until he was 16, and then until 1764 the princely school in Pforta . Müller studied at the University of Leipzig and after two years moved to the University of Halle , where on October 1, 1767 his master's disputation took place. After further disputations, he received permission to read as a private lecturer and was accepted as an adjunct of the Philosophical Faculty.

In 1777 he was appointed full professor of logic and metaphysics at the Friedrichs University in Bützow , succeeding Samuel Simon Witte . At the same time he became an adjunct of the theological faculty. In the same year at the University of Tübingen on the "occasion of the 300th anniversary celebration" he was appointed Dr. theol. hc 1778 he changed as an associate professor to the professorship of theology, which he held until 1789, when Ferdinand Ambrosius Fidler fled . Müller was a member of the ducal consistory in Rostock and from 1780 a real consistorial councilor and held the office of rector three times.

When the University of Bützow was abolished in 1789 and reunited with the University of Rostock , he stayed in Bützow with a pension that was suspended for life. In 1794 he was appointed full professor of theology at the University of Wittenberg . In 1797 he was appointed general superintendent at the request of a number of East Frisian preachers in the Prussian Principality of East Friesland and Harlingerland . He was also court preacher in Aurich and consistorial councilor at the royal consistory in Aurich. He held these offices until he died on January 12, 1821 after a brief illness.
