Uvo Hölscher (1847–1914)

Uvo Adolf Hölscher (born September 28, 1847 in Norden (East Friesland) , † April 2, 1914 in Goslar ) was a German high school professor, archive manager and historical author in Goslar.

Life

After childhood and youth in Norden, Uvo Adolf Hölscher studied Classical Philology and German Studies in Göttingen and Berlin from 1868 to 1871 . After the state examination in 1872, he was initially a teacher in Goslar, and from 1874 at the Realgymnasium in Krefeld . In 1875 at the University of Rostock on a topic of ancient Greek literature he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . In 1876 he became a senior teacher at the secondary school in Bützow , and in 1886 he became a high school professor at the Ratsgymnasium in Goslar. There he took on part-time management of the city ​​archives in 1887 . He made the documents evaluated by him the basis of historical representations, in particular the Goslar Reformation history . In 1910 he became Georg Bode's successor and first chairman of the Harz Association for History and Antiquity .

family

Uvo Hölscher's father Uvo Adolf Hölscher (1805–1863) was a lawyer and notary in the north. His brother was the pastor Wilhelm Hölscher (1845–1911). Wilhelm's sons Gustav and Uvo were his nephews, Gustav's son Uvo and his sons Tonio and Lucian were his great- and great-grandnephews.

He married Mathilde Wilhelmine Franziska Friederike Kahler (1855-1918), daughter of the businessman Friedrich Kahler, in Goslar on September 9, 1875 . They had six children.
