Georg Bode

Georg Bode (born October 12, 1838 in Eschershausen , † February 15, 1910 in Braunschweig ) was a German lawyer , historian and naturalist .

Life

From 1858 Bode studied law in Heidelberg , where he was a member of the Corps Rhenania . He later moved to the University of Göttingen and became the Hzgl in 1861. Brunswick auditor in Blankenburg (Harz) . In 1866 he became a trainee lawyer, in 1869 a district court advisor in Vechelde near Braunschweig, 1877 a district judge in Wolfenbüttel , 1879 a district judge in Holzminden , 1881 a public prosecutor there, 1890 first public prosecutor in Braunschweig, 1891 a higher regional judge and in 1898 a district court director at the Braunschweig regional court . In 1909 he retired.

In addition to his work as a public prosecutor and judge, Bode dealt with geology and paleontology of his homeland and in particular with the history of the Harz Mountains . He was the owner of the most extensive paleontological collection of the time. It later became part of the Prussian State Geological Institute . Bode made particular merits as a co-founder, long-time chairman and honorary chairman of the Harz Association for History and Archeology, as well as the author of numerous historical writings and editor of the Goslar document book . His scientific estate is in the Wolfenbüttel State Archives .
