Uvo Hölscher (Egyptologist)
Uvo Adolf Hölscher (born October 30, 1878 in Norden (East Friesland) , † February 21, 1963 in Hanover ) was a German architect , building researcher and Egyptologist .
Life
Hölscher was the son of the Protestant pastor and theologian Wilhelm Hölscher . He completed his studies at the Technical University of Hanover in 1902 as a graduate engineer . In 1906 he became a government master builder ( assessor in the public building management) and worked with Ludwig Borchardt in Abusir , then on the pyramid complex of King Chephren and in 1910 in Amarna . In 1909 he received his doctorate in engineering in Berlin . In 1911 he became a lecturer in architecture at the Technical University of Hanover, specializing in early Germanic and early Christian art, architectural drawing, architectural form theory and the design of simple buildings. From 1914 to 1916 he carried out excavations in the imperial palace of Goslar . In 1918 he was appointed professor. From 1919 he also taught ancient architecture and from 1920 perspective drawing.
From 1924 to 1929, Hölscher was Karl Mohrmann's part-time consistorial builder of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover . Between 1926 and 1937 he was on leave from lectures in the winter semester and led the excavations of the mortuary temple of King Ramses III. in Medinet Habu for the Oriental Institute of Chicago . Since 1929 he was a full member of the Archaeological Institute of the German Empire in Berlin.
In 1937 Hölscher received a full professorship for building history at the Technical University of Hanover. On October 1, 1947, he was retired.
