Johann Peter Metzger

Johann (Nepomuk) Peter Metzger von Alcantara (* February 23, 1723 in Salzburg ; † December 14, 1795 ibid) was the penultimate incumbent mayor of the city of Salzburg before the country finally passed to the Austrian Empire .

Metzger was registered as a rudimentist at Salzburg University on December 5, 1735 . He was a bourgeois cloth merchant, became a city ​​councilor in 1760 , administrator of the infirmary and leper house in the Salzburg suburb of Mühlen in 1764 , town treasurer, captain of the civil guard and administrator of the town's brickworks in 1768 . In 1780 he acquired the house at Judengasse 14.

As the successor to Sigmund Haffner d. Ä. and Ignatz Anton von Weiser , he held the office of mayor of the city of Salzburg for 20 years from 9 September 1775 to 1795 and was also the last incumbent mayor during Leopold Mozart's stay in the city. In contrast to his two predecessors, however, he had no significant ties to the Mozart family.
