Sigmund Haffner the Elder
Sigmund Haffner the Elder (also Sigmund Hafner) (* 1699 in Jenbach , Tyrol ; † January 12, 1772 in Salzburg ) was a member of the state parliament and mayor of the city of Salzburg from 1768 to 1772 .
life and work
Haffner was a wealthy trader and in 1754 received the right to mint his own coins, which were in circulation as Haffner half-godparents until 1760. Sigmund Haffner went down in history primarily as a patron. He built the two orphanages at the time in Mülln and also supported the following Salzburg institutions with a total of over 300,000 guilders: Poor Institute, the Poor Citizens' Sack, the Stadtalmosenkassa, the Johannsspital , the Bürgerspital , the Bruderhaus , the Leprosenhaus , the Poor Student Cashier, the normal school, the house arm's cash register, the apprenticeship fund, the birthing house, the Ursuline school, the three city chaplains, the Loreto monastery , the Franciscan monastery , the Capuchin monastery and the Theatine monastery .
The grave of Sigmund Haffner d. Ä. is located in the Petersfriedhof in Salzburg.
Sigmund Haffner's son, Sigmund Haffner the Younger (1756–1787), was a humanist and after his elevation to the imperial nobility in 1782 was allowed to carry the title of Inbachshausen from then on . The daughter of Sigmund Haffner d. Ä., Theresia (1740–1798), married Franz Xaver Andreas Athanasius Weiser (1739–1817) on May 25, 1762. He was the eldest son of Ignatz Anton von Weiser , the lyricist of Mozart's Singspiel The Debt of the First Commandment and Haffner's direct successor as Mayor of Salzburg.
Honor
Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse in Salzburg's old town was named after Sigmund Haffner in 1873 .
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart set the Haffners in 1776 with the musical accompaniment of the bachelor party for Sigmund Haffner the Elder's wedding. J. Haffner Serenade KV 250 is a musical monument. He also composed the so-called Haffner Symphony KV 385 in 1782 for the elevation of the young Haffner to the nobility, presumably on behalf of Leopold Mozart .
