Johann Peter von Hornthal

Johann Peter von Hornthal (born December 4, 1794 in Bamberg ; † January 26, 1864 in Bamberg) was a German lawyer , politician and poet .

Life

Hornthal was the son of the lawyer and Bamberg mayor Franz Ludwig von Hornthal . Johann Peter Hornthal studied law in Landshut , Würzburg and Göttingen . At Göbhardt's in Bamberg and Würzburg in 1816 he published the extensive collection of poetry "German Spring Wreaths for 1816". In Göttingen in 1818 he was co-editor of the late romantic student magazine " Wünschelruthe ", in which he published numerous of his own poems.

From 1819 to 1824 he taught at the law faculty of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . He then returned to his hometown Bamberg, where he established himself as a lawyer. In 1836 he was a member of the Bavarian state parliament , where he belonged to the constitutional-monarchical opposition. In 1836 he acquired the Literarisch-Artistische Institut zu Bamberg, which in addition to the Franconian Merkur also included a printer, a publisher and a bookstore. As an editor, Hornthal received the necessary confirmation from the king in 1836. However, he did not manage the company himself, as he continued to work as a lawyer. In 1845 the newspaper and printer were sold. The exact ownership situation was unclear in 1847.

After his political activities, Hornthal was also active in projects related to infrastructure, such as railways and canal construction. He joined the German Reform Association founded in 1862 . Hornthal died in Bamberg in 1864.

In 1818 Hornthal married the lawyer daughter Maria Anna Margaretha Pfister from Bamberg; from this marriage had four children. In his second marriage he married Ernestine Ritter Edle von Wallemare from Vienna.
