Johann Sebastian Lorenz Walch (born April 17, 1787 in Augsburg ; † December 9, 1840 there ) was a German painter, graphic artist and publisher.

Life

He was the son of the engraver and publisher Johann Walch (1757–1815) and his wife Anna Regina Will (1759–1837), eldest daughter of the engraver and publisher Johann Martin Will . His godfather was Johann Lorenz Rugendas . He received his first training from his father. In 1803/04 he attended the Vienna Art Academy and in 1811 the Munich Art Academy . On November 1, 1813, he married Regina Henriette Christine Troeltsch (1794–1861), daughter of the businessman Johann Ludwig Troeltsch, in Augsburg. He continued to run his father's publishing house and expanded it to include a stone and book printing company . He also worked as a glass painter and as a portrait painter.

His son Adolf (* August 21, 1815; † July 12, 1886) continued to run the publishing house, his son Albert (1816–1882) became a painter, his son Julius (* June 12, 1820; † 1840) studied at the Art Academy in Munich and died while still studying.
