Johann Sigmund von Schwendy (* 1656 in Deutsch-Wusterhausen , † 1732 in Neuruppin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general, chief of Infantry Regiment No. 24 and governor of Spandau .

Life

origin

He was a descendant of Lazarus von Schwendi and probably the son of the Brandenburg Rittmeister Johann Julius von Schwendy and Anna Magdalena Schenk von Landsberg .

Military career

He joined the Brandenburg service around 1677. In 1690 he became a captain and in 1692 a major in the 2nd Battalion of the Life Guard . On February 24, 1705 he became a colonel, on September 19, 1709 he was appointed major general and on October 10, 1717 as lieutenant general.

In 1713 the Infantry Regiment No. 24 was formed from a company of the Füseliergarde, two free companies from Spandau and one from Frankfurt . In addition, the regiment received a construction company from the artillery, which was reinforced by five companies from the Kolberg garrison . King Friedrich Wilhelm I appointed him head of the regiment . He gave it up on January 1, 1722, when he was appointed governor of Spandau. As early as 1720 he donated enough land to convert the local garrison school into a free school. He donated a house with a garden and a dairy at the Oranienburger Tor in Spandau, the king supported the school by decreeing that it would be exempt from all tax burdens.
