Johann Sofer

Johann Sofer (born September 11, 1901 in Pola , Istria , † July 26, 1970 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Romance philologist.

Life

Johann (actually: Johannes) Sofer studied Romance Studies and Classical Philology at the University of Vienna , among others with Paul Kretschmer . In 1920 he spent a semester at Lund University in Sweden . 1925 doctorate Sofer to Dr. phil. and from 1926 worked as a secondary school teacher. In 1946 he completed his habilitation in Vienna. In the winter semester of 1963/64 and in the summer semester of 1964, Sofer took on the substitute professorship for Kuhn at the University of Innsbruck . He then taught as a private lecturer at the University of Vienna. With regard to the denazification of the University of Vienna, a new beginning was set in linguistics with Sofer.
