Johann Tobias Sonntag (born September 18, 1716 in Darmstadt (baptism date), † in February 1774 in Darmstadt) was a Hessian painter of the 18th century.

Sonntag received his training in the workshop of his father Zacharias Sonntag in Darmstadt. Like his father, he initially worked as a hunting painter for the Darmstadt court. After Georg Adam Eger was appointed the hunting painter Landgrave Ludwig VIII , Sonntag turned to monumental landscapes and city views with staffage figures . His prospectus of Darmstadt, which is particularly interesting in terms of urban history, was created in 1746; this is located in the Darmstadt Castle Museum .
