Johann Ulrich Sutter-Goldener

Johann Ulrich Sutter (born January 27, 1793 in Bühler , † October 19, 1869 in Bühler; resident in Bühler) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Ulrich Sutter was a son of Christian Sutter, a farmer and home weaver , and Margareta Hochreutener. He was a brother of Johann Jakob Sutter. In 1813 he married Elsbeth Goldener, daughter of Johann Jakob Goldener. After the death of his son Sutter, Rudolf Binder took on his company in 1805. Sutter became an independent weaving manufacturer in 1811 and took over the Binder companies in 1815. In 1829 he set up an India printing and finishing plant in Gais . This was followed by finishing in Altstätten . During its heyday from 1830 to 1860, Sutter employed around 500 home workers and 200 factory workers. He also traded in textiles on a large scale. From 1816 to 1845 he was councilor in Bühler. He served as parish captain from 1827 to 1833 and from 1835 to 1845. From 1835 to 1845 he sat in Ausserrhoden district and was 1845-1853 national ensign. Sutter shaped the development of Bühler: He generated a third of the tax income, maintained a secondary school from 1834 to 1849 and certified 60,000 francs for the community. He was a co-founder and from 1837 to 1869 administrator of the Bühler savings fund.
