Johann Heinrich Carl Wöbken (born February 13, 1802 in Oldenburg ; † October 28, 1878 there ) was Lord Mayor of Oldenburg.

Life

Wöbken was the third son of the construction manager Traugott Hermann Wöbcken (1769–1815) and his wife Anna Rebecca née. Eilers (approx. 1777–1849) was born. He attended grammar school in Oldenburg and studied law at the Universities of Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1821 to 1824 . He then entered the civil service of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg , initially working as an official auditor in Zwischenahn and then as a regional court assessor in Delmenhorst . In 1828 he became city counsel and, as city director of Oldenburg, was the highest citizen of the city from 1834 to 1875. His successor, Wilhelm von Schrenckwas the first to be awarded the title of Lord Mayor. During Wöbcken's term of office, the industrialization of Oldenburg fell, among other things, a gas works was opened, which meant that the streets of the city could be illuminated. In 1849 he was a member of the 1st Oldenburg State Parliament .

family

Wolters married July 2, 1829 Ida geb. Rüder (1795–1890), daughter of the Eutin chief forester Carl Maximilian Rüder (1764–1831) and sister of the Oldenburg politician Maximilian Heinrich Rüder (1808–1880). The son Karl (1830-1896), who came from the marriage, became headmaster of the Cäcilienschule Oldenburg .
