Wilhelm Philibert Freiherr von Schrenck , also Schrenck von Notzing , (born February 28, 1828 in Burgsteinfurt , † November 12, 1892 in Hamburg ) was Lord Mayor of Oldenburg .

Schrenck came from the North German branch of the Munich patrician family Schrenck von Notzing , who had been raised to the rank of baron in 1719. His parents were the Oldenburg Obergeometer and Upper Chamber Councilor Albert Philibert Schrenck von Notzing (1800–1877) and his wife Johanna Magdalena van Nes (1803–1846). His brother Franz (1824–1905) became the father of the physician Albert von Schrenck-Notzing .

Life

Schrenck attended the old grammar school in Oldenburg and entered the Oldenburg civil service in 1852 after studying law . Initially, he was employed as an official auditor in Burhave and Berne and returned to Oldenburg in 1856 as government secretary . In 1857 he temporarily took over the duties of the syndic of the city of Oldenburg. In 1862 he was transferred to the office of Friesoythe and in 1870 appointed bailiff in Vechta .

On August 27, 1875, Schrenck was elected mayor of the city of Oldenburg. From February 9, 1877, he was the first to bear the title of Lord Mayor . In February 1890 he was suspended for embezzlement and sentenced on March 19, 1890 to three years in prison. However, he no longer had to serve his entire sentence in the Vechta prison because of a pardon from Grand Duke Peter II . He died in Hamburg in 1892.
