Johann Wagner (politician, 1916)

Johann Wagner (born March 8, 1916 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , United States ; † January 10, 1976 in Vöcklabruck , Upper Austria ) was an American- Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Johann Wagner was born in the USA, but came to Austria with his parents as a toddler, where he grew up in Vienna . After attending elementary and grammar school , Wagner found work as a clerk for the City of Vienna in 1936. Just a year later he became a soldier in the army , and in 1939, after the annexation of Austria , a member of the armed forces .

In 1945, shortly after the war , he became a police officer in Vienna, most recently with the rank of criminal investigator.

At the same time, Wagner was one of the founding members of the ÖVP in Vienna. Within his party, he rose to party chairman of the Vienna district of Simmering .

In 1959 he moved to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council as a member of the ÖVP . Wagner belonged to this until 1969. In December 1970 he was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council . He was a member of the Federal Council until his death in January 1976.

Johann Wagner died of a heart attack in a hospital in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria . He was 59 years old.
