Johann Werner (Mayor)
Johann Werner (* 1573 in Langenschade ; † February 23, 1651 in Dresden ) was a Dresden councilor and mayor .
Life
Johann Werner came from the small town of Langenschade in the Saalfeld office in Thuringia . He lived in Dresden from 1616 at the latest and acquired citizenship that year. Professionally, he worked as an innkeeper and was the owner of the “Stern” inn on Poppitz in the Wilsdruffer suburb .
In 1618 Werner is listed for the first time in the directory of Dresden council members. In 1641 he was elected for life as one of the three mayors of the city, who alternated every three years according to the current council regulations. Accordingly, he also held the office of governing mayor in 1644, 1647 and 1650. During his last term of office he died at the age of 78 and was buried in the Sophienkirche .
