Johann Wilhelm Sckell

Wilhelm Sckell (* 1722 in Reckahn ; † 1792 in Schwetzingen ), also Johann Wilhelm Sckell , was a German landscape gardener.

Life

Sckell came from the painter and gardener family Sckell . He was the son of Johann Georg Wilhelm Sckell and after his training he was court gardener of the princes of Nassau- Weilburg from 1749 . In 1753 he came to Schwetzingen, where he worked for the Elector Karl Theodor von der Pfalz from 1757 . He was the father of the later architect and horticultural artist Friedrich Ludwig Sckell , who completed his first training in horticulture and civil architecture under the direction of his father. In 1762 Sckell became the second court gardener at Schwetzingen Castle . His younger brother Johann Friedrich Sckell (1725-1810) initially succeeded the Prince of Nassau-Weilburg and in 1765 became Prince Carl Christian's building inspector .
