Johann Wilhelm Zanders (born January 21, 1899 in Bergisch Gladbach ; † March 16, 1978 ) was a German paper manufacturer and long-time managing director of the J. W. Zanders paper mill .

Life

He was the eldest son of Hans Wilhelm Zanders and his wife Olga , geb. Peltzer . After graduating from the Arndt-Gymnasium Dahlem in Berlin, he studied economics and business administration in Heidelberg and Cologne . In 1920 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia in Heidelberg . His dissertation entitled Fiber processing in the German paper industry under the influence of technical changes in the production process was already an indication of his later professional activity in the family business, the Bergisch Gladbacher Zanders paper factory . In 1929 he was appointed to the company's management. Zanders held this position until his death. In 1956 he made the decision to acquire the license to manufacture Chromolux paper from the American company SD Warren Paper Mill from Westbrook , Maine .

From 1948 to 1961 Johann Wilhelm Zanders was a member of the Bergisch Gladbach City Council and was particularly committed to cultural policy. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of JW Zanders Feinpapierfabrik GmbH, he donated a large amount to the city in 1954 as the basis for a “spatial cultural center”. With the help of this money, the building of the forum for the adult education center and the municipal library on the upper main street was built in the 1960s. In the Altenberg Cathedral Association he was initially treasurer and from 1947 chairman. In 1968 Zanders welcomed the 1000th member. In 1977 he set up the Zanders Foundation - Paper History Collection .
