Johann Zdiarsky (Czech Jan Žďárský ; born July 20, 1849 in Prachatice ; † February 15, 1907 ibid) was an entrepreneur and mayor of the South Bohemian city of Prachatice.

biography

Johann Zdiarsky's parents Wenzel and Rosina were comb makers and in 1865 bought the Sitr house on the town square ( Velké náměstí ) of Prachatice (today the town museum), where the Zur Bierquelle inn was also operated. Zdiarsky worked as a verification master and in 1871 married the doctor's daughter Theresia Rau from Nýrsko (German Neuern ), with whom he had eight children. After his wife died, he married Anna Krásova from Volyně (German Wolin ) in 1886 , who bore him three more children.

Zdiarsky was elected the local representative of the German Bohemian Forest Association. In 1885 he set up a small dormitory for high school students on the first floor of his house at Ringplatz 13 . When the long-term mayor Ernst Mayer died in 1891 , Zdiarsky succeeded him as mayor and held this office until his death. In 1893 he was able to successfully complete the efforts of his predecessor to connect the city to the railway network, which later became the Číčenice – Haidmühle railway . Zdiarsky had an urban development plan drawn up, which formed the basis for further urban development. During his tenure, the new high school building and the New Town Hall were built, and in 1904 the new dormitory Eule ( Sova in Czech ) was set up. - Zdiarsky was a member of Schlaraffia .

For his services, Johann Zdiarsky was made an honorary citizen of the city on March 26, 1898 and was awarded the knightly order.
