Sitrův house in Prachatice

The Sitr House (Czech Sitrův dům after Thomas Sitter, or Žďárských dům ) in Prachatice (German Prachatitz ), a town in the Jihočeský kraj region (South Bohemia) in the Czech Republic , is a basically Gothic building that was rebuilt in 1604. The former residential building on the north side of the market square has been a protected cultural monument since May 3, 1958.

history

In 1581, Ambrosius Sitter (Ambrož Sittr) from Volary bought the inner city parcel including the old house for his son Thomas Sitter ( Tomáš Sytr ). As a successful salt merchant, he had a new building built by the builder Josef Fargit ( Jozef Ffargit according to the inscription) in 1604 . Fargit was of Italian origin and had previously worked in Budweis and at the Koloděje nad Lužnicí Castle .

The couple Josef and Františka Žďárský bought the house in 1865. In 1885 a guest house was set up on the ground floor and a dormitory for students of the German high school on the first floor. In 1950 the city of Prachatice bought the house, which was then in a bad condition. After renovation work, the city museum was officially opened on July 5, 1954.
