Johann von Buch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann von Buch the Younger (born around 1290 ; died around 1356 ) was a judge and the most important glossator of the Sachsenspiegel (not to be confused with Johann von Buch the Elder, contemporary of Otto IV (Margrave of Brandenburg), Vogt to Tangermünde ).

Life

Johann von Buch was born as Nikolaus von Buch's son around 1290 in the Altmark of Brandenburg near Tangermünde . He was one of the first members of the von Buch noble family, which still exists today . After studying law at the University of Bologna , which is documented by a matriculation entry from 1305, he worked back home as a consultant, court judge and later also as captain for Margrave Ludwig (the Bavarian) of Brandenburg .

Johann married a woman named Mechthild and with her they had three daughters and at least one son who, like his grandfather and himself, was called Johann.

Between 1325 and 1333 he wrote his famous gloss on the Sachsenspiegel (so-called Buch's gloss ). This was of impressive size (approx. 6500 references to Roman and canon law ) and is considered the reason for the great and lasting importance of the Sachsenspiegel.

In addition, Johann published the Richtsteig Landrechts , probably around 1330 . In it he arranged the regulations contained in the Sachsenspiegel according to their respective areas, the court proceedings and different types of claims.
