Johann Hugo Wolfgang von Kesselstatt (* 1691 ; † 1730 ) was provost of the cathedral in Trier.

Life

Origin and family

The noble family von Kesselstatt originally came from the Hessian area, whose parent house of the same name was near Kesselstadt and came to the Trier area in the 14th century. The family line produced numerous personalities who held important positions in church and state. Johann Hugo Wolfgang von Kesselstatt was born the son of Colonel stable master Kasimir Friedrich von Kesselstatt (1664–1729) and his wife Anna Klara von Metternich . She was a daughter of Wolfgang Heinrich Freiherr von Metternich-Burscheid. After his death in 1790, Kasimir inherited a considerable fortune, including the lordships of Lösnich , Bitburg and Bruch . His entire fortune was put at over 100,000  Reichstaler . That corresponded to about half of the expenditure of the electorate state budget of 1714. In 1718 Casimir Friedrich was appointed by Emperor Karl VI. raised to the imperial baronage. Johann's brothers were Karl Friedrich Melchior (1692–1751, ⚭ Maria Isabella Theresia Antoinette Raitz von Frentz , parents of Hugo and Johann Philipp ). His sister Klara Luise (1726–1746) was married to Johann Hugo Franz Graf von Metternich-Winneburg. and Joseph Franz (1695–1750, diplomat and canon). His sisters were Maria Charlotte (1693–1757, ⚭ Franz Philipp Wambolt von Umstadt ) and Maria Clara (⚭ 1718 Johann Philipp von Hohenfeld).

Act

In 1699 Johann Hugo became canon in Trier and in 1719 canon . His appointment as a scholaster fell in the year 1725. In the years 1714 to 1717 he completed a degree at the University of Pont-à-Mousson . On March 24, 1711, the Pope appointed him to assist his uncle Karl Kaspar with the right of succession as Provost of St. Paulin . He took over this office in 1723 when Karl Kaspar died.
