Hugo von Kesselstatt

Hugo Kasimir Eduard Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt (* 1727 in Föhren Castle ; † 1796 in Würzburg ) was the electoral court master and imperial privy councilor .

Origin and family

In the 13th and 14th centuries, the noble family von Kesselstatt came to the Trier area. It originally came from the Hessian area, whose parent company of the same name was near Kesselstadt . Numerous personalities emerged from the family who held important positions in church and state. Hugo Kasimir Edmund von Kesselstatt was born as the son of Karl Friedrich Melchior von Kesselstatt (1692–1751) and his wife Maria Isabella Theresia Antoinette Raitz von Frentz . His sister Klara Luise (1726–1746) was married to Johann Hugo Franz Graf von Metternich-Winneburg . Hugo's great-grandfather Johann Eberhard (* 1621, building of Föhren Castle1663) had married Anna Antonette von Orsbeck. She was a sister of the Trier prince-bishop Johann Hugo von Orsbeck . After his death in 1711, Johann Eberhard received large estates from his wife's inheritance and achieved great prestige. Hugo was married to Katharina Elisabeth Freiin Knebel von Katzenelnbogen , daughter of Baron Franz Ludwig Knebel von Katzenelnbogen and his wife Maria Sophia von Walderdorff.The marriage resulted in 14 children:

Career and work

At the age of 23, Hugo Kasimir was Oberamtmann von Pfalzel and one year later, after the death of his father, in 1751, Obervogt of the Kröver Reich . From the last Elector of Trier, Clemens Wenzeslaus , he was commissioned to work out measures to increase agricultural production in arable and viticulture. So he was appointed country steward. Hugo had five sons study law, police, finance and commercial science at the Knight Academy in Vienna . In 1792 and 1794 his family fled across the Rhine from the advancing French revolutionary troops . In 1796 he died in Würzburg.

Others

In the years 1740–1746 Hugo's father Karl Friedrich Melchior had a stately palace built by the baroque master builder Valentin Tomann in Trier, opposite the bishop's court and the Church of Our Lady . In the chaos of war, the family archive was moved to Prague in 1794. Between 1801 and 1803 Hugo's son Edmund rearranged the documents so that the family's claims to ownership could be preserved and the property could be regained.
