Knebel von Katzenelnbogen was the name of a German noble family.

history

The members of the Rhenish knight family Knebel were originally ministerials of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen and called themselves Knebel von Katzenelnbogen after them, although the Counts of Katzenelnbogen , who had their ancestral seat at the castle of the same name in today's Rhein-Lahn district, died out in 1479. The wealthy family on both sides of the Middle Rhine had their hereditary funeral in St. Quintin in Mainz . 1710 Knebel von Katzenelnbogen of emperors Joseph I. in the realm baron conditions applicable. In 1816 the family died out in the male line .

The first coat of arms was a red shield in silver, accompanied by a black ring in the upper right corner; A red dog-eared right and a silver left dog-eared crest. The helmet covers were red and silver.

They later acquired the fourth coat of arms as heirs to von Graenrodt (also von Grärod , Grarath , Graurod or Graerodt ). Fields 1 and 4 show the red surface of a shield in silver and a black ring in the (heraldic) right upper corner (more rarely also a red ring). Fields 2 and 3 show a golden crossbar in black, which is accompanied by two balls at the top and one golden ball at the bottom.
