Karl Kaspar von Kesselstatt (* 1652 ; † May 3, 1723 ) was governor, rector of the university and president of the court council in Trier.

Life

Origin and family

The noble von Kesselstatt family originally came from the Hessian area, whose parent company of the same name was near Kesselstadt . It came to the Trier area in the 14th century and produced numerous personalities in church and state. Karl Kaspar was born the son of Johann Eberhard von Kesselstatt (* 1621) and his wife Anna Antoinetta von Orsbeck. This was a sister of Prince-Bishop Johann Hugo von Orsbeck . After his death in 1711, his father received large estates from his wife's inheritance and gained great respect. Karl's brother was Kasimir Friedrich (1664–1729), the father of Joseph Franz (1695–1750, diplomat and canon in Trier) and Johann Hugo Wolfgang (1691–1730, provost in Trier).

Act

Karl Kaspar was appointed canon in Trier in 1662 and on August 17, 1682 with papal approval as provost in the collegiate church of St. Paulin in Trier. Three years later he was appointed cathedral choirmaster . He was appointed provost of the cathedral on October 16, 1686. This made him the highest-ranking cleric after the prince-bishop. In 1709, the Trier transferred Prince Bishop Johann Hugo von Orsbeck the Schloss Bekond Karl Kaspar, of this water tower a year later, according to the plans of kurtrierischen court architect Philip Honorius Ravensteyn was converted into a feudal family castle and expand.
