Johann von Kudriaffsky

Johann von Kudriaffsky (born August 27, 1782 in Vienna ; † April 8, 1840 there ) was an Austrian engineer. He was instrumental in the construction of numerous bridges in Vienna.

Life

Johann von Kudriaffsky was the son of an employee of the Russian legation in Vienna. Kudriaffsky, who studied at the Vienna Engineering Academy from 1799 to 1804, was professor for fortifications and civil construction at the same academy from 1813. In 1815 he became captain of the engineering corps and in 1817 he switched to the Lower Austrian civil service, where he was senior construction director and head of hydraulic engineering and bridge construction. From 1818 to 1836 Kudriaffsky was employed as a teacher at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute . He died of suicide in Vienna on April 8, 1840 .

In 1940 the Kudriaffskygasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him.

As an engineer, Johann von Kudriaffsky had the Franzensbrücke rebuilt, repaired the Ferdinand Bridge and in 1824/1825 he constructed the Erdberger Chain Bridge .
