Johanna Fischer-Frey , also Johanna Fischer , née Johanna Frey ( August 20, 1867 in Klagenfurt - July 24, 1907 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian opera and operetta singer ( soprano ).

Life

Fischer-Frey was training to be an accountant and was about to take a position in the office when her beautiful voice was discovered and she was advised to have her trained for the theater. For four years she pursued vocal studies with the Klagenfurt Music Director with great enthusiasm until she made her debut at the Salzburg City Theater in 1884 .

Her beautiful figure as well as her splendid vocal means immediately won over her, and for two years she worked in the first operetta roles on this stage, until in 1886 she obeyed a call to the city theater in Würzburg . There her voice developed more and more, so that it was also used in great operas, and with success (e.g. "Irmentraut" in the armorer ). After another two years she came to Reichenberg as an operetta singer and in 1888 to the summer theater in Braunschweig, where she was considered the darling of the audience for three years. This was followed by a year-long activity at the Stadttheater in Magdeburg , from where she was employed at the Theater an der Wien in 1891 . Here she found ample encouragement from the management and the most approving reception from the public. In her first roles as "Harriet" in Poor Jonathan and "Electress Marie" in Bird Trader , she won general sympathy. For almost eight years she was the first female operetta singer at this theater. Then she followed an application to the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich and in 1899 became a member of the Carl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg.

Her voice was also praised in this sphere of activity, an extremely powerful, full-sounding, trained soprano, who met even greater demands and was enhanced in an advantageous manner by the tasteful presentation and excellent pronunciation. From 1901 to 1902 the artist worked at the Lyric Theater in Bucharest and in September 1902 was engaged at the Jantsch Theater in Vienna.

The artist married in Vienna in 1890 with Alexander Fischer , then a member of the Deutsches Volkstheater .
