Johanna Schwab

Johanna Schwab (born March 17, 1934 in Zams , Tyrol ; real name Erika Schwab ) is a charitable sister and founder of the Children of Kosovo campaign .

Life

Erika Schwab grew up with four siblings. Her father was a foreman in the Landeck postal garage . She chose the profession of kindergarten teacher, entered the order of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent von Paul and took the name Sister Johanna . In 1962 she came to Carinthia , where she worked in a children's home in Treffen near Villach for around 40 years. She is a passionate artist, so even then, selling paintings was a way of raising money for social projects. Today it is mainly the billets, with their acrylic and watercolor pictures serving as templates.

After retiring, she and the army officer Clemens Feuerstein began to support needy children in Kosovo . The Children of Kosovo project developed from this activity .

Sister Johanna has received several honors and awards, including the Greineck Senior Prize in 2005 and the State of Tyrol's Decoration of Honor in 2018.
