Johanna Ursula von Geusau , née Johanna Ursula von Rhediger (* 1659 in the Duchy of Oels ; † October 31, 1718 in Köstritz ) was a German hymn poet .

Life

As Johanna Ursula Freiin von Rhediger she was born in 1659 in the Duchy of Oels, whereby the father died shortly before her birth, so that she grew up in poverty. In 1688 she married the royal Brunswick chamberlain Günther von Geusau , who was also canon of the Gandersheim monastery . He died in 1701, Johanna von Geusau let her sons take up the pedagogy of the Francke Foundations in Halle an der Saale and soon moved here herself. She gained recognition in Halle. When the sons grew up, von Geusau acted as educator for the Solms family . She had to give up this job due to illness. She spent the following year at the Graflich-Reussischer Hof in Köstritz and died there on October 31, 1718 of her long illness.

Three of von Geusau's poems were included in Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen's second part of the witty hymn book .
