Johanna von Pfalz-Simmern

Johanna von Pfalz-Simmern (* July 1, 1512 ; † February 2, 1581 in Marienberg Monastery , Boppard ) was abbess in Marienberg Monastery.

Life

Johanna was a daughter of Count Palatine and Duke Johann II of Palatinate-Simmern (1492–1557) from his marriage to Beatrix (1492–1535), daughter of Margrave Christoph I of Baden . She was a sister of the Elector Friedrich III. from the Palatinate .

Johanna and her sister Ottilie entered the Marienberg Benedictine monastery in Boppard in 1520 . Ten years later, their sister Maria followed as a nun in the monastery. Under her predecessor in the abbess's office, a Countess of Leiningen, Johanna was elected prioress and in March 1576 was elected abbess of the monastery. Jakob von Eltz , Elector and Archbishop of Trier supported Johanna's election.
