Johannes Centurio Macasius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann (es) Centurio Macasius also Macasii (* 1636 in St. Joachimsthal , Bohemia , † September 14, 1680 in Annaberg ) was a German medic, philosopher and city physicist.

Life

Macasius was the son of the miner and city treasurer of St. Joachimsthal Johann Gabriel Macasius , who received the nobility diploma together with his three sons in Prague in 1663 and whose first wife Magdalena nee. Lengefelder, daughter of the royal mint master Centurio Lengefelder. The doctors Johann Paul Macasius and Johann Georg Macasius are often wrongly stated as his fathers. But since he is referred to in his writings as Johann Centurio Macasius / Von Joachimsthal from Bohemia , this can be ruled out.

After studying medicine and philosophy (med. Et phil.) At the University of Leipzig , he worked as a respondent. Macasius was the author and co-author of numerous writings that he had printed by Christian Lange , a relative by marriage. In 1676 he moved from Leipzig to Annaberg. There he was appointed city physician and successor to Dr. Stamp. He died there of the plague in 1680 while serving.

Christian Lehmann wrote: D. Macasius, Physicus in Annaberg / dared to go into the infected houses without hesitation / and trusted his conservative, but he had to pay for it and die.

family

Macasius married Maria on August 6, 1665 in Leipzig, the widow of the citizen and jeweler Georg Spitzen and daughter of the citizen of Leipzig Georg Opitz. An occasional publication was published for the occasion . A son is known from the marriage:
