biography

Johannes Dahl studied Catholic theology and was ordained a priest on March 11, 1911 by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Müller together with 47 other deacons in Cologne Cathedral . He received his first chaplain position in Cologne-Mülheim (Liebfrauen), then in 1920 he was appointed journeyman praeses in Düsseldorf and rector of the Herz Jesu chapel there. In January 1937, the Archbishop of Cologne , Karl Joseph Cardinal Schulte, appointed him pastor of St. Bruno in Düsseldorf- Unterrath and ten months later he was also dean of the Dean's Office Düsseldorf-Nord. Dahl was elected General Praeses of the International Kolping Society on October 2, 1945 and was confirmed in this office on October 11 by the protector of the Kolping Society, Archbishop Joseph Cardinal Frings of Cologne . Less than two years later, Dahl renounced the office of General Praeses. From August 6, 1948, he was head of the archbishop's press office in Cologne.

Act

After the unexpected death of General Praeses Theodor Hürth in September 1944, in view of the turmoil of the war, it was not possible to convene the international General Council and carry out regular elections. Therefore, Johannes Dahl was not elected until the beginning of October 1945. He had recommended himself to the electoral committee through his more than one and a half decades of activity and experience as Düsseldorf journeyman president. In the middle of war-torn Cologne, Dahl initiated the reorganization of the Kolping Society, but already at the 6th German Central Assembly in Stuttgart he resigned on September 9, 1947.

Awards

On July 3, 1948, Johannes Dahl was appointed Dome of Honor at the High Cathedral in Cologne.
