Johannes Raft

Johannes Peter Floß (born January 26, 1937 in Kreuzau ; † December 9, 2016 in Aachen ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and university professor.

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Floß studied philosophy and theology at the universities of Bonn, Munich and Aachen from 1961 to 1967. In 1967 he was ordained a priest and took a position as chaplain at St. Mary's Assumption in Mönchengladbach . In 1971 Floß moved to Aachen, where he worked as a subsidiary at St. Corpus Christi . At the same time he took over in 1972 a job as a secretary for theological adult education in the region Aachen City and received his doctorate in 1975 for Dr. theol. at the Catholic theological faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

Subsequently, Floß worked from 1976 to 1986 as a research assistant for the field of Catholic theology at RWTH Aachen University. In the meantime he was released from 1979 to 1982 for the purpose of completing a Semitist course and preparing for his habilitation. He graduated from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich in 1981 in the subject of Old Testament Introduction and Exegesis and for Biblical Languages . Back in Aachen, he also received a substitute professorship for theology. From 1986 to 1987 Floß took on an endowed professorship at the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture , with which he was appointed Dean of Studies for the Ecumenical Theological Study Year of the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo of Rome in the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion in Jerusalem .

In 1988, Floß followed a call back to RWTH Aachen University, where he was appointed full professor in Biblical Theology , which he held until his retirement in 2002. In the meantime he was elected Vice Dean from 1990 to 1992 and then Dean of the Philosophical Faculty until 1994 and Vice Rector for Teaching, Studies and Academic Reform from 1994 to 1997 . In addition, Floß repeatedly supported his former parish of St. Corpus Christi during his vacancy , held the Holy Masses and took care of their pastoral care.
