Johannes Gottfried Hallier

Johannes Gottfried Hallier , also known as Hans for short , (* July 6, 1868 in Jena , † March 10, 1932 in Oegstgeest near Leiden ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Hallier f. ". He was the son of the botanist and philosopher Ernst Hallier .

Live and act

Hallier began studying botany and zoology at the University of Jena in 1888 , where Ernst Stahl and Ernst Haeckel were his teachers. From 1890 he studied at the University of Munich with Ludwig Radlkofer and Richard Hertwig . In 1892 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

In the same year he became a scientific assistant in the Botanical Garden of the University of Göttingen , 1893 to 1897 in the Botanical Garden Buitenzorg on Java , where he was partly employed as a Dutch official. In 1897 he became an assistant at the Botanical Institute of the University of Munich, and in 1898 at the Botanical Museum in Hamburg.

From 1903 to 1904 Hallier made a trip to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka ), the Indian and Malay archipelagos, as well as China and Japan . From 1908 to 1922 he worked as curator at the Rijksherbarium in Leiden.

Hallier worked out a phylogenetic plant system, using not only morphological but also microscopic, anatomical and biochemical methods.

Honors

The plant genus Hallieracantha Stapf from the acanthus family (Acanthaceae) is named after him .
