Johannes Höhener

John Höhener (* 3. January 1834 in Gais ; † 10. May 1901 in St. Gallen ; heimatberechtigt in Gais AR) was a Swiss textile manufacturer, member of the Small Council , Gemeindepräsidentund Cantonal of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Höhener was a son of Samuel Höhener, Molken - Grempler and councilor , and Anna Barbara Menet. In 1857 he married Anna Magdalena Kürsteiner, daughter of Johannes Kürsteiner, Senn . He attended primary school in Gais. At first he worked as a farmer . At the end of the 1850s, Johannes Höhener founded a yarn trading business . In 1871 he acquired the Lower Mill in Gais. There he set up a twisting mill . In the 1880s, under his son Robert Höhener, this developed into an important twisting and bleaching company .

From 1861 to 1864 Johannes Höhener was a member of the municipal council in Gais. From 1864 to 1871 he was on the Small Council . From 1871 to 1873 and from 1874 to 1876 he served as mayor . From 1871 to 1873 and from 1876 to 1888 he was Ausserrhoder Grand and Cantonal Councilor . In 1877 he took over the post of community court president and did so until 1883. From 1878 to 1888 he was a cantonal road inspector.
