John IV (* 6th or 7th century; † October 12, 642 in Rome ) was Pope from 640 until his death.

He came from Salona in Dalmatia . After the short pontificate of Severinus he was elected on December 24, 640 as his successor. He bought Christians free from Avar - Slavic captivity and condemned monotheleticism . He defended his predecessor Honorius I , who died in 638, against the Eastern Roman emperor Konstans II . On October 12, 642, John IV died in Rome.
